The Parnassos ski resort is located in the prefecture of Boeotia and is the largest and most organized ski resort in Greece. It receives the largest number of visitors per year, which is helped by the relatively short distance from the capital Athens. The operating altitude of Parnassos is 1.640m to 2.260m giving a very satisfactory altitude difference of 620m.
Access to the Parnassos ski centre
It is about 180 km from Athens and 30 km from the most popular winter destination, the picturesque Arachova. In addition, it is easily accessible from other major cities of the country such as Lamia, Patras, Livadia, Thebes and Chalkida.

Access is very easy and even on most “difficult” winter days, the ski resort remains open thanks to the many snow machines available. The two main roads leading to the Parnassos ski resort are the following:
- The first one is the one that reaches up to the lift for one of the two main ski slopes of the ski resort, the one at Kelaria. It passes through Arachova, which you will reach via the Athens-Thessaloniki highway. The best way to get there is to exit the highway at the Kastro – Orhomenos exit. This way you avoid several kilometers of country road to Livadia and save a lot of time for Arachova. Once you reach the cosmopolitan mountain village of Arachova, follow the signs for the ski resort and after passing through Livadi (Kalyvia Arachova) you have a few kilometers of mountain road left until the parking lot and the first lifts.
- The second one leads to the back or rather north side of Parnassus and specifically to the base of Fterolakka at 1,600 meters altitude.

To get there if you are coming from Athens follow the same route as above (exit from the highway to Kastro – Orhomeno) but after you pass Orhomeno, at the next major intersection you will meet do not go straight but turn right towards Thourio, Chaeroneia,, Tithorea, with final destination the small town of Amfiklia located just below the mountainous volume of Parnassos.
If you are coming from northern Greece and Lamia then for the Parnassos ski center and the Fterolakka location you can take the road to Amfissa on the Lamia – Patras road and after a few kilometers turn to Amfiklia. In Amfiklia just follow the signs for Parnassos ski center.

Skis and trails of Parnassos ski resort
At the ski resort you will have 19 pistes, 2 main communication roads with the lower stations, 7 ski routes, 8 connecting trails and 3 mini beginners’ pistes with baby lift.

The total length of the trails is 36 kilometres and there are several remote black routes for experienced skiers or snowboarders. Activities – short excursions
When and after you get tired of the exhausting descents, figures and impressive jumps or just from the endless hours of waiting in one of the two chalets of the Parnassos ski center, you can go to 2-3 quite interesting destinations:

- The first of course is cosmopolitan Arachova, the mountain village below Parnassos that is bustling with life almost every day of the week. More will follow in a future article.
- The Archaeological site and the museum of Delphi. At a distance of about 35 km from the ski resort there is a unique UNESCO World Heritage site. It is worth even a short visit to the navel of the Earth.
- At 60 to 65 km you will find the picturesque Galaxidi in the beautiful and sheltered bay. Galaxidi is beautiful all year round and a visit there is one of the most suitable combinations of mountain and sea in Central Greece.
- Returning from Parnassos ski resort and Arachova you can make a stop at, or better, at the Krya of Livadia. It is a very beautiful green landscape where you can walk next to the waters of the river Erkina and the small waterfalls they form.
On the other side of the pedestrian street there are of course taverns where you can enjoy the famous souvlaki of Livadia and some cafes for a drink while listening to the sound of running water.
