The home of the Centaurs and summer residence of the 12 Olympian gods is adorned by a multitude of traditional picturesque villages. One of its most beautiful and well-known villages is Tsagarada. Let’s see why.

The Pelion is one of the most popular tourist destinations in our country all year round. Its geographical location helps significantly in this respect, as it is located about 370 and 250 km from Athens and Thessaloniki respectively.

Access to Tsagarada

From the city of Volos the route to Tsagarada can be done in two ways. The first one is through the central Pelion, i.e. passing initially through Portaria and then through Chania and Makryrachi. It is the most scenic route but is characterized by several bends that are likely to tire you if you are already coming from far away.

The second one follows the western side of the mountain, next to the Pagasitikos Gulf and passes by coastal villages such as Agria and Kala Nera. Shortly afterwards you will turn left for Milies and from there you will head towards Xourichti. Although it seems a longer route it may turn out to be shorter and certainly more relaxing.

When you reach Tsagarada, you will see that it is a village built along the road. This impression is also due to the beauty that the village hides. The rich vegetation that surrounds it, the tall chestnut trees, the magnificent plane trees and the various fruit trees that are scattered on the slopes of the village. Pelion.

Tsagarada consists of neither one nor two but four settlements. Specifically, Agia Paraskevi, Agios Stefanos, Agia Kiriakiakiaki and Agios Taxiarches. In short, it occupies a green slope from the height of the peripheral road and a little further up to the Aegean Sea, thus constituting the ideal combination of mountain and sea.

Of course, Tsagarada is not only a favourite tourist destination for its natural beauty. The inhabitants of the village have taken care over the years to endow it with such ornaments as their own houses, which are traditionally built in the Pelion architecture, the churches, monuments built in beautiful squares under century-old plane trees, the stone bridges and a well-maintained network of paths that give the opportunity for short excursions in the heart of the forest of Pelion.
