The coastal Astros of Kynouria is a favorite summer destination for the residents of Arcadia, Argolida and not only as in recent years it has experienced significant but mild tourist development with many visitors from Athens, Argos and Nafplio ( hotels in Nafplio ).
This is due to two main reasons: The short distance that separates it from the urban centres mentioned above and the easy access to it.
The second and most important reason has to do with the coastal village of Astros itself as it is sure to win you over at first sight as it is a picturesque seaside village with a wonderful beach, crystal clear sea and a large part of it is built amphitheatrically on the hill “island” that dominates with its presence and the medieval castle that is located on top of it.

Sightseeing in Paralio Astros of Kynouria

The island hill is a small asteroid-shaped peninsula, hence the name of the village, on which traditional stone houses are built and is the most picturesque part of the settlement.
There is also the medieval castle of the Venetians, built in the 15th century, which you must visit as it has an excellent view of the Argolic Gulf, the Nafplio and of course the coastal Astros with its picturesque harbour and the long Callisto beach with a length of about four kilometres!
Another spot worth seeing is the picturesque harbour of the village with the anchored fishing boats (last time we went to Paralio Astros in 2025 the traditional fishing boats had been replaced by “modern” boats) and the crystal clear transparent waters where kids fish with rods and lines.

Walk to the edge of the waterfront and enjoy a different view of the village with the “island” dominating on the right and the long beach on the left. Then sit in one of the many seaside cafes, restaurants and ouzo bars and enjoy the tranquility of the Argolic Gulf.
