Running waters, centuries-old plane trees, stone bridges, watermills and small waterfalls make up the landscape in the beautiful area of Krya Livadia.

Krya is truly an oasis of greenery in the southern part of the capital of Boeotia and one of the favorite spots not only of the residents of the city but also of those who visit the sights and the nearby tourist attractions such as Delphi , Arachova or the Parnassos ski resort.

Access to Krya Livadia

The distance from the Athens to the capital of Boeotia, Livadia is 140 km from the Athens-Lamia highway and the road Kastro-Orhomenos. Specifically, at about 95 kilometers from Athens you will find Lake Yliki on your right.

So after Yliki at about 15 km and just before you reach Kastro, you will meet the sign for Orhomeno to turn right and pass over the national road towards Orhomeno and Livadia.

It is the same route that you should follow from Athens to Arachova and the Parnassos ski resort and of course to Delphi. In addition, Livadia is 95 kilometres from Chalkida, 45 from Thebes and 85 km from Lamia via Amfiklia.

Cold Livadia

The location of Krya is a piece of green oasis that blends harmoniously with the residential part of the city of Livadia , thus favouring the direct access of its residents to it. It is perhaps the most important recreational area of the city and has been exploited for tourism to a lesser extent with the creation of a pedestrian walkway directly above the running waters.

In this pedestrian street and on the opposite side you will find some cafes and taverns where you can of course enjoy the famous souvlaki of Livadia.

Spring is one of the best seasons to enjoy the landscape that literally transforms leaving behind the simple winter cloak that gives way to the spring nature that greens Krya and fills it with the chirping sound of the running waters that descend with momentum from the small gorge that ends there.

Krya in antiquity

The waters of Krya are those of the river Erkynas, while the area was of particular importance in antiquity as the famous oracle of Trophonius Zeus was located there, where the Ancient Greeks bathed and drank the water of the springs of oblivion and remembrance before taking the oracle‘s secret oracle.

It is the springs that even today feed the Erkinas River, giving us this beautiful landscape. It is worth walking through the whole area, passing from one stone bridge to another and reaching the cobbled path to the stone theatre built at the entrance of the gorge in 1987, where cultural events of the municipality take place.

If you have time and appetite you can climb up to the chapel of Agia Jerusalem enjoying the view of the medieval castle, the city of Livadia and the Parnassus.
