Agios Petros in Arcadia (province of Kynouria) is a large head village spread on a green slope of Parnonas. It is a traditional settlement that, apart from the beautiful area in which it is built, is famous for its picturesque alleys with old and faded signs from shops of other eras.
The large square of Agios Petros is dominated by the church of Saints Peter and Paul and the traditional products. Besides, the verdant surrounding slopes are full of chestnut trees, apple trees, plane trees and pear trees, so you will definitely find some of the flavours of Parnonas to taste, depending on the season.

The Monastery of Panagia Malevi, with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which according to tradition was painted by the Evangelist Luke, is 9 km from Agios Petros and is located on the road coming from Astros of Kynourias (50 km from Agios Petros). It is also located at a relatively high altitude, 950 metres, and was founded in the 17th century. Very close to the monastery is a unique in Europe forest of tree cedars that is worth visiting.
During your visit to Agios Petros, it is worth visiting apart from the impressive church of the Holy Apostles, the domed fountain with the inscription of 1769 in the central square of the village and the fortified house with the battlements known as the Tower of Agas or Trikaliotis.

Finally, if you are in good physical condition, don’t miss the opportunity to follow one of the paths leading to the refuge and the peaks of Parnonas as it is probably the best way to get to know the beautiful natural landscape of the area.
