For the children there is a large playground next to Bourtzi (details below) and a small luna park that has been operating since the early 90’s, maybe even earlier!

Bourtzi Karystou and Kokkinokastro
Two of the most important sights of Karystos belong to the period of occupation by the Venetians and the Lombards. The first is Bourtzi at the eastern end of the harbour which is a well-preserved epilimenoic bastion of hexagonal horseshoe shape. It has recently undergone conservation work and can now host photography exhibitions and other cultural events.
The second is Kokkinokastro (Castello Rosso) built in 1205 by the Lombards in a fortified location above the city of Karystos. It was built on the ruins of an ancient acropolis and is now easily accessible as an asphalt road from the village of Mili leads close to its entrance which you can reach by walking up the hill for about 5 minutes.

When you visit Karystos do not miss a visit to the Yokaleion Cultural Foundation which includes an important library of 11,000 volumes. The same building also houses the archaeological museum of Karystos with important findings from the temple of Poseidon in Kastri and the dragon houses of Ohi and Styra.

The same building houses the archaeological museum which hosts exhibits from prehistoric times to the Roman era.
Beaches of Karystos
In summer , however, the best “attraction” of Karystos is the beautiful beaches its beaches.
Some of them are located in the coastal zone of the city such as Gallides or Gallida and specifically at both ends of the bay as it stretches in front of the Gulf of Karystos, while a few kilometres away, the picturesque and quiet bays of Paximada on the west side of the bay and the organized beaches of Psili Ammos or Kohili, Marmara, Kavos or Alykes and Agalma on the east side and in the area known as Bouros are excellent choices.
