The Dimosaris Gorge is located on the northeastern side of Ohi in the southern Evia and is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in our country.
In total, it has a length of about ten kilometres, starting from Petrocanalo (altitude 950 metres) in the heart of the green side of Ohi and ending at the beach of the settlement of Kalliana.

Almost from the beginning of the route and after the position of Krya Vrysi you will be accompanied on your left by the stream of Dimosaris that crosses the gorge and flows into the Aegean Sea. In the middle of the gorge and a little further down you will find the settlement of Lenossaeoi, near which is the famous Skala Lenossaeia with its characteristic small waterfalls and natural pools formed by the crystal clear waters of the stream.
In the summer, many people dive into them, enjoying the coldness that characterizes the running waters. The gorge is somewhat steep and overgrown with the vegetation of the area, which is dominated by century-old plane trees, chestnut trees and arias. From there to the sea it becomes more gentle.

Because the whole route is very downhill it would be good if you do not want to do the same route of ten uphill kilometers this time, to have arranged for a car to be at the beach of Kalliana for your return.

An alternative way of approaching Demosaris
Although we highly recommend crossing the gorge from its beginning to the beach of Kalliana, the fact that you must have arranged for someone to wait for you there with a car or book an organized tour can be a deterrent. (In 2025 access from the car park in the village of Lenossae to the beach was closed. However, as this is changing, it is advisable to check in advance if you have an appointment at Kalliana beach.)

So if you want to see the most interesting, admittedly, part of the gorge and enjoy the natural scenery at the point with the most waterfalls and natural ponds that offer refreshing dips in the icy waters of the stream of Dimosaris, there is an alternative route.
Specifically, you can drive to the village of Lenossaeoi, park in the small available space at the end of the dirt road and from there take the cobbled path known as the “Ladder of Lenossae” up to the pedestals and the waterfalls. Allow about a 20-minute to half an hour climb so the cold running water pools will provide even more relief once you reach them.
For the people of Lenossa the route is not the easiest since if you start for example from Marmari you will need at least an hour and a half while the last quarter to twenty minutes is a dirt road. Therefore, be careful of the car you use since if it is new or low it is better not to attempt it.
After passing the beach of Kalliana and its canteen, drive another 2-3 km and turn right diagonally at the small sign for the village of Lenossaia)

Crossing the gorge of Dimosaris is considered easy as the path is marked and passable. In fact, its construction is not a new affair since the cobbled section was created at the beginning of the Middle Ages and was the only way for the settlements of Dimosaris to communicate with the rest of the world and especially with the Karystos .

It is very likely that in the 4 hours or so it takes to cross it you will see some of the rich fauna of the area. Personally I saw hawks, eagles at high altitudes, water frogs and waterbirds enjoying the coolness of the stream waters.
Cute blue dragonflies will accompany you all the way. In addition, the rugged sections of the canyon are good hiding places and shelters for birds such as the buffalo (the largest nocturnal predator), snake eagle, blackbirds, finches and others.

There are also several species of snakes such as water snakes, vipers (distinguished by their characteristic triangular head and “horn”), shrews, tree shrews that feed mainly on lizards and various species of frogs that are very often found near and in the icy waters of Demosaris.
More information can be found at the kiosk for the Dimosaris Gorge located on the coastal road of

. From there you can get a map of the area and perhaps arrange an organized excursion that will take care of your return from the beach of Kalliana.
