One of the smallest but also one of the “luckiest” rivers in Greece, since its largest part crosses one of the most beautiful parts of our country, the gorge of Vikos.

Boydomatis is a small tributary of Aoos with a length of about 15 km and is the river with the cleanest waters in Greece and perhaps in Europe. Indeed when we stood next to its banks at a point a few hundred meters from the bridge of Aristi and saw the clarity of its waters at a fairly deep point we were impressed as the waters of Voidomatis are the definition of the phrase “Drink it in a glass”.

Their purity is of course due to the fact that the river is located entirely within the Vikos Aoos National Park. The park was declared in 1973 and as a result, an important step has been taken to protect the sensitive flora and fauna of the area, which has also preserved the purity of the river’s waters, which are crystal clear but also quite cold all year round.

Of course, in the summer, several parts of Voidomatis are dry, something that changes immediately after the first autumn rains fall and the beautiful river, whose waters have led to the construction of beautiful stone bridges that are now an attraction for visitors to the area.

Rafting and kayaking in Voidomatis

The sources of Voidomatis are located just below the village of Vikos in central Zagori and after crossing the beautiful Vikos Gorge it meets the Aoos River in the valley of Konitsa. You can enjoy its crystal clear but also icy waters by kayaking or rafting.

The most common and easiest route starts from the bridge of Aristi (located on the road between Aristi and Papigo) and ends at the bridge of Kleidonia, which is the end of the Vikos Gorge.

Whether you enjoy this natural landscape from your canoe or on foot, it is certain that you will remember it as one of the most beautiful routes you have ever taken.
