Although the best way to assimilate a landscape is rather slow movement and observation, the fact that I am flying over the earth in a plane at immense heights, observing huge sizes now the size of a matchbox makes me stick, my face in the past, or my camera for the last 25 years, to the small window every time I am inside my favourite box. Aerial photographs have always intrigued me for the different perspective they offer on a world that ultimately seems to be not so big after all!

Aerial photos rather than drone shots provide a more panoramic view due to the higher altitude that you can only get from the 30 thousand+ altitude that commercial planes reach

As all this is happening 11 kilometres above sea level and while we are moving at a speed of 1,000 kilometres per hour, I am almost amazed at how indifferent everything I have described above seems to most of my fellow passengers.

Some are asleep, others are reading a book while the more glued to the screen or simply busy have opened their laptops, tablets or mobile phones and are already immersed in the screen of the device, continuing what they have been doing so far at the office at work and doing what they will do again once they are settled at their destination.

On the other hand, this little white-tailed dot on the Adriatic Sea challenges me to discover the Italian port in which it will dock, as well as every little village that has no idea of the questions it has caused me as I fly over its “head”.

The photos below are from flights and travels in Europe and specifically from Athens to Munich, Berlin, Geneva, Barcelona and Greece. Όπως για παράδειγμα αυτό στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης που μου έδωσε τη μοναδική χαρά να απολαύσω τη Σαντορίνη από ψηλά με το ηφαίστειο της, τη Θηρασιά αλλά και την Ανάφη, ενώ άλλα δύο ταξίδια στα Dodecanese namely from Kasos to Karpathos, Karpathos to Rhodes, Rhodes to Kastelorizo and Leros to Athens.
