Mykonos owes much of its reputation, which has made it a sought-after tourist destination in the far corners of the world, to its beautiful beaches . The beaches of Mykonos impress with their crystal clear waters and their golden sandy beaches.
The most famous beaches such as Psarrou, Elia, Ornos , Platis Gialos and others are on the south side of the island, protected from the strong northerly winds that sometimes disturb and sometimes cool down beneficially, depending on the intensity since 1-2 Beaufort can make a huge difference in our mood.

These are the ones where we admired the crystal clear, transparent waters of the Aegean Sea with the turquoise-green shades they acquired depending on the light and the sand that each beach had.

Beaches of Mykonos
As you will see from the photos, it is worth not only sitting on the beaches , but in some of them, to walk uphill and enjoy the Cycladic colour of Mykonos and its beaches from above.
The combination of the light brown sandy beach and the turquoise waters is something you should definitely enjoy before relaxing next to the admittedly cool sea of Mykonos.

Most beaches have beach bars for coffee, drinks and food, others have more “cleaner” restaurants and tavernas and almost all have sunbeds with umbrellas, a combination that usually costs a lot and is hard to avoid if you go during peak season.
The more “relaxed” beaches are located in the northern part of the island and are worth visiting when the famous August and quite strong in southern Evia, Andros, Tinos and Mykonos, when the wind is not blowing.
Best time for Mykonos?
We visited Mykonos at the end of September. Although it sounds a bit far from the “official” August Greek summer, anyone who can visit the island from mid-September onwards will be a winner. And there were people and everything was done more comfortably.
From finding somewhere to sit down to eat, have a drink, park, move around the narrow Mykonian streets. This is what it’s like to access and stay on the island’s famous beaches .

Wherever we went we found a sunbed and a comfortable place on the beach to lay your towel without having to pay. So unless you are a fanatic fan of nightlife till you drop, crowding in the alleys and expensive accommodation deals, a visit to the beautiful island of Mykonos in September is imperative.
Access to the beaches
As you will see from the photos, Mykonos has more than 15 beautiful beaches so it is impossible to draw a general conclusion about access to them. What you should generally note is that for most of the well-known beaches on the southern side of Mykonos, the roads are relatively narrow.
Thus, especially during the months of increased tourist traffic in July and August, you should pay close attention to the narrow places and closed bends with limited visibility for cars, motorbikes and“pigs” coming from the oncoming traffic.

In addition, in Mykonos town great attention to pedestrians who in several places due to lack of …sidewalks, are forced to walk in the street.
Finally, we learned that on beaches where the road has a steep slope, such as the road to Agrari beach, there is a problem with tourists who have rented pigs , as they do reach the beaches but some overloaded ones may have difficulty getting up due to the steep, uphill slope of the road.
