Polilimnium Messinia

A small green paradise, dotted with ponds and waterfalls awaits you in Polylimnio Messinia.

Access to Polilimnium.

The location of the gorge of Polilimni is approximately in the middle of the main road from Messini to Pylos (or Kalamata to Pylos). Specifically, at the village of Kazarma you will turn to the village of Haravgi and from there there are signs that will lead you after a few hundred meters to the car parking point (there are two spots that we will mention later).

Kazarma is 20 km from Messini, 21 km from the town of Pylos, 31 from the capital of Messinia , the city of Kalamata. From Athens to Polilimnio you will need to travel about 260 km.

Ponds and waterfalls.

The access from the parking area to the first lakes and the small path is very easy and once you enter the path the only thing you have to be careful not to slip. On the trail in some of the more difficult parts there are metal supports that help quite a bit on the way up.

The first images from Polilimnios are very beautiful but you better move up to see something you probably didn’t expect to see. You pass one of the first large lakes, that of Italos , and head uphill to Lake Kadoula. From there the view is stunning as you will see other lakes spread out before you with dozens of small waterfalls and frames of images are completed by a large waterfall that can barely be seen through the leaves of the trees and lane flowers.

Continue the ascent and enjoy the beautiful Lake Kadi with its imposing large waterfall, crystal clear waters and steep cliffs that rise above the water.

All these elements will guide your thinking on whether you should dive into its waters or not. Some daredevils will not think about it at all and will suddenly feel the coldness of the waterfall‘s waters. Of course, no matter how much thought you give this is something you cannot avoid so make up your mind and enjoy swimming and diving from the rocks of Lake Kadi.

If you want to enjoy a natural massage , you can approach the point where the waterfall ‘s waters rush down (from a height of more than 20 meters!) while right next to it you will see the wind ladder that will lead some people to the first nice diving spot.

Be careful not to step on some of the natural inhabitants of Polilimnium

There are of course some people who want to fall from higher and climb to the left of the first point to offer intense images to those who have just climbed up to enjoy the scenery or a simple swim in Kadesh. (the photos below are indicative.)

The Black Lime!

Apart from the spot we described, there is another fairly large pool in the second parking area with much easier access. It is the Black Lake (Mavrolimna is probably above Kadi, we could not ascertain this since we did not continue further up the climb. From the map like the one at the entrance of the gorge, which you will see in the photos below, we conclude something like this) and it is ideal for endless moments of relaxation or picnics next to its peaceful waters.

In both areas be careful not to step on any of the big crabs in the lake, while in the lake of Italos we also photographed a water snake (photos below).
