Metsovo claims to be the most picturesque mountainous settlement in Greece and not without reason. It is built among towering mountains, with the highest being Lakkos at 2295 m and Mavrovouni at 2159 m, it is a stone’s throw away from the national park of Pindos(Valia Kalda) and two ski resorts for winter sports enthusiasts, while it can easily boast of its rich cultural and spiritual history.
Moreover, it is the home of several great national benefactors such as Georgios Averoff, Nikolaos Stournaris and Michael Tositsas, in whose honour our National Technical University was named Metsovio!
A large part of the development of Metsovo in the economic and spiritual sector over the centuries is also due to the seemingly isolated location of the settlement. This is because it is the passage, through the mountain

Metsovo , beyond the historical elements and the rich cultural and spiritual tradition that characterizes it, has become known for several other reasons. The beauty not only of the natural landscape but also of the settlement itself is an attraction for tourists. The settlement is built amphitheatrically at an altitude of 1,200 metres and most of its houses are stone-built mansions, many of which have been restored with great care and attention.
It has a central square where several events and festivals take place, especially during the summer months when the weather is favourable, while around it there are several taverns with delicious meat, traditional cafes and several shops with folk art, local cheese products and other goods. Besides, several residents of Metsovo are even professionally engaged in the arts of woodcarving and textile which seem to be “reviving” due to the strong demand for their products by tourists.
