Lake Doxa is an artificial lake with an unparalleled natural beauty that is ideal for a variety of activities among towering snow-capped mountain peaks and, together with Lake Tsivlou in Achaia, are two of the most beautiful lakes in the Peloponnese. It is located in the prefecture of Corinthia and specifically in the municipality of Feneos.
It does not have a rich history since it is 30+ years old (the construction works were completed in the late 1990s!) but for centuries in the wider area the rising water level from the floods created problems several times, destroying cultivated areas and led to the transfer of the old monastery of St. George to its current location, well above the level of the current lake, in the late 17th century!

Access to Lake Doxa
Although Lake Doxa seems to be hidden and protected by the surrounding mountains of Corinthia and Achaia, it is easily accessible for short trips from most urban centers of the Peloponnese and of course Athens.

- Offering a terrace, Eleni Country Cottage 2 is located in Feneos, 3 km from Doxa Lake. This holiday home also provides free private parking, a kitchen and free Wi-Fi.
Specifically, coming from Athens and driving on the Athens – Patras highway, you should turn to Stymphalia at the height of Kiatos. You pass the famous lake Stymphalia and after a few kilometres the road becomes uphill with bends as you approach the village of Kastania. A few kilometres after Kastania, on your left, you will have a panoramic view of the great valley of Feneos.
Your road will pass through the villages of Mosia and Messinon and in a few kilometres you will turn right towards Ancient Feneos and from there, in just one kilometre, you will see the small and beautiful lake.
The natural landscape of Lake Doxa

The lake is located at an altitude of 880 metres and its relatively small size makes it ideal for hiking or cycling around the lake. However, there are many adventurous people who, with the right equipment of course, carry out diving in its icy waters “searching” for the old iconostasis of Agios Georgios which is submerged at a depth of about 8 meters!

- Surrounded by fir trees, the stone-built Akrothea Hotel is 8 km from Lake Doxas and features a bar with a fireplace. It offers rooms with a balcony and views of the Feneos Valley. The village square is 100 metres away.(booking.com)
The natural landscape around the lake is beautiful as it is dominated by 3 towering mountains of the Peloponnese. In particular, the Ziria (Kyllini) with an altitude of 2’374 meters, the Chelmos (Aroania Mountains) with an altitude of 2’355 meters and Dourdouwana at 2’109 meters.
The existence of all these mountains around the lake reminds us of the beautiful Alpine landscapes and lakes from which Doxa has little to envy (and this is coming from a man who has visited about 1/3 of the Alpine range in France, Switzerland and Italy).

The best time to visit the lake and experience this feeling is when the peaks and slopes of the mountains are covered in snow. If you can manage a day with no wind at all, then the sight of the reflection in the serene waters from the snow-capped peaks and lush green mountainsides is truly unique.

The chapel of Agios Fanourios
Another element that significantly beautifies Lake Doxa is the chapel of Agios Fanourios, which from several points on the perimeter of the lake seems to be in the lake and on an island. In reality, however, there is a dirt strip of land leading to Agios Fanourios, on the site of which the old monastery of Agios Georgios used to stand.

Rooms / guesthouses at Lake Doxa
Your options for staying very close to the lake in recent years have increased significantly. See the available hotels in the area of Feneos while even more guesthouses can be found in the mountain settlement of Trikala Corinthia .
It is also worth trying the nearby Zarouchla (21 km from Lake Doxa) where, among other things, you will find the Styga Mountain Resort which has almost excellent reviews (9.3 out of 10, as of October 2025) on booking.com
Closer to the lake, however, you will find the Alexiou guesthouse located in Ancient Feneos just 1.5 km from Doxa, while 4-5 good accommodation proposals are also available in the neighbouring village of Goura (5 km from Lake Doxa), as well as in Kastania, which is located between Lake Doxa and Lake Stymphalia.
